There are significant differences between power cables and signal cables in many aspects:

 

Design and use:

Power cables are mainly used to transmit and distribute electrical energy. They are commonly found in urban underground power grids, power station lead-out lines, internal power supply for industrial and mining enterprises, and underwater transmission lines across rivers and seas. It plays a key role in the trunk lines of the power system and includes cable products of various voltage levels.

Signal cables are mainly used to transmit data, voice, video or other low-power electronic signals. It is mainly used in communications, audio and video equipment, medical equipment, automotive electronics and industrial automation. The transmission distance of signal cables is relatively short, generally within tens of meters, but some special signal cables can transmit signals for hundreds of meters.

 

Structure and materials:

The basic structure of power cables usually includes a core (conductor), an insulating layer, a shielding layer and a protective layer. Its conductor is usually made of copper or aluminum, and the insulating material needs to have high electrical insulation and high temperature resistance. 

The structure of signal cables is more complex and may contain multiple pairs of wires, each pair of which needs to have good insulation and anti-interference properties. The conductor of the signal cable is usually made of copper or silver, and the insulating material needs to have high electrical insulation and low dielectric constant.

 

Voltage and current:

Power cables transmit high voltage and high power electrical energy, and their voltage is usually above 1 kV, and the current is also very large.

Signal cables transmit low voltage and low power electrical signals.

 

Transmission rate:

Power cables are mainly used to transmit electrical energy, and their transmission rate is not their main performance indicator. It mainly focuses on conductivity, electrical insulation, etc.

The main function of communication cables is to transmit signals, including telephone, telegraph, fax documents, television and radio programs, data and other electrical signals. Therefore, the transmission rate is one of the important performance indicators of communication cables.
